Gonzalez,_Guillermo.jpg
Guillermo "Bill" Gonzales24 viewsI was born in Los Angeles, California on June 25, 1923.

I Graduated from Roosevelt high School in February 1942, shortly after, because of World War II, I entered The United States Marine Corps in August 1942.

I went thru boot camp in San Diego, and then was sent to Naval Air Technical Training Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

I later was sent to the South Pacific to various islands for a year and a half. Returning to the states after the war ended I was discharged in San Diego.

I re-enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in August of 1947 in Los Angeles.

In 1948 I married a wonderful girl and joined the Los Angeles County Fire Department at almost the same time.

The Korean War started in June 1950 and our Reserve unit was activated and sent to Camp Pendleton.

We were attached to the 2nd Battalion, 11th Marines First Marines Division, and an Artillery unit.

We were sent overseas and made the Indsoa landing, captured Seoul then reloaded for the Wonsan Landing.

The Division was sent up to the Chosin Reservoir where we were encircled and cut off. We fought our way out, boarded a ship and left for Pusan and Masan.

After getting refitted we were sent up Central Korea where I was finally sent home and discharged.

After my wife passed away I remarried a charming girl and have been married for 6 years. I have seven children, eighteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

I served in the Fire Department for Thirty-two years retiring as a captain and taught at the Rio Hondo College Fire Academy for Twenty-Five years.

During my free time in 1990, I volunteered with the Whittier chapter of the American Red Cross for about five years in the Disaster Unit.
