Born January 20, 1934, I have lived my entire life in Whittier; attending Lydia Jackson Grammar School, East Whittier Intermediate School and graduating form Whittier High School in June 1951. A month later, at the age of 17, I enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was sent to San Diego N.T.C. for basic training.
Because we were at war with Korea, I expected to be sent to sea immediately
